PEEPING AT BOSCH

Peeping at Bosch was a large scale performance project developed with The National Theatre of Scotland and Tramway, Glasgow. The intention was to realise the painting ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch as an interactive theatrical experience that the audience could participate in.

The three main areas of Eden, The Garden of Earthly Delights, and Hell were realised with the collaboration of a variety of artists, including Sri Lanka (set and decor), Graeme Gilmour and Ewan Hunter (design), Alex and Flo Rigg (movement), Lindsay John (choreography), Iain Kettles (inflatable sculpture), La Chunky (soundtrack design) and Mike Lancaster (lighting design). Several dance and theatre practitioners also joined the Mischief core performers in the production.

Audience members entered the world of Bosch via a carousel and could then wander freely through the three realms, choosing to recline on talking pillows to observe Adam and Eve, to chat and munch strawberries in the Garden (where they could enter pods to be caressed with poetry), or visit Hell to torture the inhabitants with terrible machines.

The project garnered a great deal of positive press, and was nominated for a CATS award for theatre design.
