THE SCONE OF DESTINY

The revered, mystical and ancient 'Scone of Destiny' is the centrepiece of this lively performance which combines elements of parade with mock ritual and country dancing.

The colourful Women's Guild of Master Bakers, each dressed in traditional costumes representing either Flour, Sugar, Butter or Sultana, carry the Scone atop a litter through the streets towards a suitable spot where the legendary baked wonder can be celebrated through ritual and dance, accompanied by bizarre tales of its creation in 1739 and a comical musical soundtrack.

The Scone of Destiny was created thanks to funding from Creative Scotland and, to date, has toured many small towns and villages in Scotland. Here it is on another outing at a fiery, night time, outdoor event in Alloway, the birthplace of Robert Burns.
